Joshua Tree National Park Association provides grants to support graduate students at accredited institutions for their independent field science studies in Joshua Tree National Park.

These grants encourage students to conduct research, provide experience in applying for grants, meeting deadlines, and developing and managing a budget. The student’s work should focus on the resources of Joshua Tree National Park. Potential applicants should review the park’s research website to understand existing research and needed areas of research (Research Needs link).  Applicants need not limit their inquiries to the research preferences identified.

Awardees are expected to produce a written report, prepare a webpage detailing their work and conclusions, and publicly present their findings in a suitable forum (such as the Desert Institute Lecture Series).  Awardees have two years from time of award to complete their fieldwork and meet all award requirements.

Award amounts are up to $4,000 per project.
