Connect with your family and Joshua Tree National Park by participating in our family programs. We offer a variety of activities from navigation and tracking to scientific experiments in the desert.
The Desert Institute offers half day courses for children from 8 - 13 years old and their parents, grandparents or guardians. Field trip material correlates with grade level science standards (grades 4-6) and will support your child’s science education. Each course is limited to twelve participants (kids and parents). Course fees are Per Person (p/p).
Peer into the world of the wild animals of the Joshua Tree National Park in this amazing new course! Track alongside experienced trackers and learn to read the landscape like an open book. The desert is not empty if you know how to read the ground! Tracking is a lifelong study - this class will give you the tools to start down that road. Topics discussed will include print track identification, animal behavior, as well as human tracking.
Bring snacks, a lunch and water, a day pack, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and hat, and an open mind for learning in the Joshua Tree National Park!
This half-day course for children from 8 - 13 years and their parent, grandparent, or guardian.
