Ever wondered what the plants we admire during a spring bloom in Joshua Tree National Park are called? Ever wonder why they bloom when they do and how they manage to bloom at all in such a harsh environment? Stefanie Ritter, professor of biology at Copper Mountain College, and naturalist Mark Wheeler will guide students in the study of Joshua Tree National Park’s unique plant community during this three-day field class. Participants will learn to recognize and identify many of the common flowering plants, and also learn how to use plant keys to identify flora on their own in the future. The class will cover botany basics, plant adaptations, anatomy and distribution. Classroom instruction on Friday will include close study of flower structures through microscopes, and the following two days will be spent studying plant communities in the field. Join us for a fun and informative weekend studying the plants of Joshua Tree National Park!
