GPS Navigation Techniques

 Learn how to use your Global Positioning System (GPS) device with David Pylman, navigation specialist, in the Mojave Desert of Joshua Tree National Park. GPS units grow in popularity each year as more and more people get access to this high powered route-finding tool. But GPS technology can be challenging for beginners use! David will explain how to best utilize GPS in outdoor navigation during this two-day field class. Saturday, David will teach participants GPS basics including how to navigate through the myriad of menus, options, and features found on their devices. More importantly, participants will also learn the limitations of GPS technology. Saturday, the class will move to field, focusing on hands-on learning experiences through practical exercises. Participants will pinpoint their location, mark waypoints, plot courses and create routes in the wilderness of the park.
