About the Internship

The Minerva Hamilton Hoyt internship was created by the Pasadena Garden Club to honor one of its most esteemed and environmentally impactful members, Minerva Hamilton Hoyt, who is credited today for being most instrumental in the establishment of Joshua Tree National Park. It is the goal of the internship to promote and “protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and actions in the fields of conservations and civic improvement.” This internship, which is managed by the Joshua Tree National Park Association, is awarded each year to a student from Copper Mountain College majoring in Environmental Studies or General Sciences. Interns work under the supervision of Joshua Tree National Park employees in the Science and Resource Stewardship Division and perform fieldwork, data entry, information compilation, and scientific research.

The Joshua Tree National Park Association is pleased to announce Kaeliegh Watson as the 2023 Minerva Hamilton Hoyt Intern.

Copper Mountain College’s Kaeliegh Watson is the 2023 recipient of the Pasadena Garden Club’s Minerva Hamilton Hoyt Internship. Now in its fifth year, the internship is awarded annually to a CMC student majoring in STEM with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Ms. Watson’s internship will occur in CMC’s Spring 2023 semester. 

She will work under the supervision of Joshua Tree National Park employees in the Science and Resource Stewardship division and will perform a mix of fieldwork, data management, and scientific research. Biology professor Dr. Paul Delany shared, “This is a great opportunity for Kaeliegh to work and study with environmental professionals in Joshua Tree National Park.”

Minerva Hamilton Hoyt was one of Pasadena Garden Club’s most esteemed members, and was instrumental in the establishment of Joshua Tree National Park. The internship honors her legacy by promoting environmental quality through educational programs and actions in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.
